Volunteering

Our volunteers undertake one or more of three main activities:

  • They spend four hours on one Saturday or Sunday a month showing visitors around the museum and answering questions. We provide full training and a quick reference guide. The opportunity is also available to learn to drive our visitors’ train on Sundays.
  • They work in our Cafeteria Car for four hours on one Sunday afternoon a month preparing and serving refreshments and Devonshire Teas. We normally have two volunteers each Sunday or sometimes three at busy times of the year.
  • We meet each Tuesday and Friday morning, from 8am to around 10:30am, to maintain the rolling stock, install new exhibits, lay track, etc. Having a chat and a cup of tea is an essential part of this activity.

If you are interested or have questions please call our secretary, Peter Lucas, at 0414 232 060.
